Designed to stand as a marker amidst its urban surroundings, the project has the aspiration of providing presence and cohesion to the sequence of public squares and pedestrian movement that flows under and around the site. It is understood that this place has been, and continues to be, a critical gateway into the city, a site of significance for gathering together and for meeting and connecting.
This façade is bound around the structural columns, adjusting and confounding the reading of the building’s scale and size. The facade in combination with the deep and sheltering floor plates provide significant thermal benefit to the project, mitigating solar heat gain through universal shading of the façade envelope.
Careful consideration of the ground plane and the projects’ connection to the street and adjacent puclic sqaure of Henry Dean’s Plaza are key components of the design. Layering the experience at ground includes the interstitial space outside the building, an area embraced and sheltered by the veil, allowing an interaction with the building which blurs public realm and the commercial spaces of the project, enhancing its activation, civic generosity and the public nature of its immediate context.
